When we got back, the water was up to the top of this launch. (By the way, I've come to believe my boat was being clandestinely disrespected.)
Heading out...
This was the most common view I had of Chris L.
Assorted paddlers
Chris, Brenda, and Erik close in on Bannerman Castle (Pollepel Island)
Looks like the plants already invaded before we got there
Not much left to this side
We paddled mostly around the south side for a look
Landing on the south side for a tour. That's our tour guide coming over to meet us. The non-kayak tours land at the docks on the north side.
This the view where we had lunch later.
Up the trail from where we landed
Frank Bannerman was Scottish...
This was the residence.
Up at the castle... The straggler shutterbugs committed some trespassing at this point, but in our defense, the signs were setup for people coming from the other direction.
The missing side fell away in 2009 I believe.
The insides were burned out by a fire in 1969.
Cozy
There on the tree to the right is the sign we hadn't read yet.
Joined with other tour going on
The dock area we didn't use
The steps up from the dock
Fully sanctioned views now. Passenger train is just coming into view on the right. There was also a freight train line on the other side of the river.
A picture of a picture of what it used to look like before the walls fell down
Another picture of the residence
The view south from the island
Brenda and the boats
Looking up at the residence building from about where we had lunch.
The other Don in the other Valley boat as we got back underway.
An uneventful trip south other than the wind that picked up occasionally
I believe that's Storm King Mountain past Chris
Look back toward Storm king. The 'line' you can see part way up the mountain is route 218.
U.S. Army tours?
West Point in the distance. It says "BEAT AIR FORCE" on the roof.
